FWS - My Experiance

I hosted my first Home Page with www.rediff.com. They have only webbased FTP and at that time i was not able to create directories in their account.

Due to this problem i moved to www.geocities.com. They are fast, easy to use and reliable. They offer Form mail, counter and other hosted scripts. Their ADVT's also small.

I was looking for a host that support CGI. I find www.tripod.com that support Perl. They put Banner / Pop up advt on every page offers 50 MB webspace. I put my site with tripod for more than 1 year and found my site available all the time. They are really good. The only problem i found is they don't support all the CGI modules (At that time i need to use socket.pm)

For better cgi i tryed www.mycgiserver.com At that time they offer ADD FREE 3MB webspace with Perl, PHP, JavaServlet, JSP etc. They are really good with all the Programming Language support. They does not allow out side link on your page. I have a lot of links on my favorite link section and some affilate links. So i can't host my site their.

www.hypermart.net offers 20 MB webspace with Perl. They also host your domain (www.yourname.com). Their CGI is good, support most of the standard modules and fly installed and have many scripts hosted for cut and paste installation. They put Banner/Pop up AD on your pages. Their Pop up ad is little big and refreshes itself in every 2 minutes.

I use Pop up AD on my site because i need to keep my page payout unaltered. Since the Hypermart Pop-up ad is little big and auto refreshing i stay with tripod. I signed up with crowswinds.net, at the time they offer Advt free unlimited webspace. They does not support CGI and recently added ADVT to members pages.

Signed up with www.spaceports.com, they offer Perl, PHP and MySQL. Members need to place banner ad on top of every pages. They offer unlimited Webspace and transfer. They have separate server for cgi (perl, php and MySQL). They have some unconventional way of using the services. I got lot of error in setting up my site http://efriends.cjb.net ( FREE internet matrimonial site using PHP and MySQL.) their. So i look for some other free host that can support MySQL and PHP.

I find www.f2s.com and www.portland.co.uk both offer PHP, Perl, MySQL and NO ADVT. I signed up both. Both sites provide subdomains( www.yourname.f2s.com and http://yourname.portland.co.uk). Portland even host your own Domain (http://www.yourname.com/) or have a yourname.port5.com subdomain. My plan was to host http://efriends.cjb.net/ with any of these sites which found better. I found my f2s.com site unavailable at many times. The portland.co.uk is good but have only 2 MB MySQL database and have a limit of 100 MB transfer per month. For most of the sites the 100 MB per month is OK.

The portland.co.uk is ok. But due to 2 MB MySQL limit i finally hosted http://efriends.cjb.net/ on a paid host.

www.doteasy.com is a good Free Web Space provider offers 20 MB with NO ADVT. They can also Host your Domain (http://www.yaourname.com/).

www.netfirms.com offers 25 MB webspace with Perl. They host your domain name (www.yourname.com) or a subdomain (http://yourname.netfirms.com/). They put banner advt of members pages.

I am listing out some of the good free web space providers. The list is not accoring to any order. These sites offer various features. You may visit the sites and find which one is best suited for you.

www.cjb.net offers free url redirection and email forwarding service. It is a good service with NO Advt. My http://efriends.cjb.net/ is a redirected url for http://www.flashwebhost.com/love/.

NetFreeHost.com - Free Web Hosting with 50 MB Web Space, Unlimited Bandwidth, FTP Access, Web Based File Manager, File Editor with No Banner No Pop-up Ads. Provide web site like http://YOURNAME.BizHat.com.
